Welcome to my March Newsletter Blog as we celebrate women’s history. Let’s honor women around the globe by discussing not only the contributions of women to society but also topics that address issues impacting them.

Significant milestones in women’s rights have included the following.

  • In 1848, the in the United States was held in New York. Many participants signed a "that outlined the main issues and goals of the emerging women's movement.

  • In 1850, Sojourner Truth delivered her memorable speech, “Ain’t I a woman?”.

  • In 1866, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony formed the American Equal Rights Association for white and black women and men dedicated to universal suffrage.

  • In 1920: Some women in the U.S. were given the right to vote.

  • In 1932: Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic.

  • In 1942: Women served in the armed forces during World War II.

  • In 1955: Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama.

  • In 1966: National Organization for Women (NOW) was founded by Betty Goldstein Friedan.

  • In 1973: American tennis champion Billie Jean King defeated champion player Bobby Riggs in a "Battle of the Sexes" match.

  • In 1983: Sally Ride became the first American woman in space.

  • In 1994 Congress passed the Violence Against Women Act.

  • In 2007: Nancy Pelosi became the first female speaker of the House of Representatives.

  • In 2021, Kamala Harris became the first woman to become United States Vice President.

As women’s rights advance and many milestones are achieved, society changes, but not always positively. For example, June 19, 2022, marked 50 years since the 19th Amendment gave some women suffrage. Yet, while today, women represent America's most populated voter pool, women are still underrepresented in many occupations or fields worldwide. So, with that said:
