Did Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream Come True?

We often refer to Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream Speech” of 1963 and paint it with a rose-colored forecast for African Americans. But, about a year before Dr. King died, he clarified that his dream had become a nightmare during a news interview. Dr. King explained that it was after the civil rights movement that we faced the most resistance because previous gains didn’t cost the nation anything. King stated, "It’s much easier to integrate a lunch counter than guarantee a livable income and a good solid job. It is much easier to integrate a public park than guarantee the right to live in sanitary, decent housing conditions. It is much easier to integrate a bus than to make genuine quality integrated education a reality."
